Review the requirements that matter
For aerospace procurement, establish whether the component is safety-critical, the governing drawing revision, material specification, traceability requirements and customer approval process. Do not assume a general casting capability qualifies a supplier for a flight application.
Qualification and scope
Ask for applicable certifications, their current scope and customer-specific approvals. Distinguish demonstrated experience from an application the supplier is still evaluating.
Manufacturing documentation
Agree the required material records, processing records, inspection documentation and change-control process before sampling.
Component review
Review thin sections, machining datums, surface requirements and inspection access against the actual drawing.
From quotation to repeat orders
- Define the enquiry. Provide the current drawing revision, specified material, quantities and target delivery. Highlight features that determine assembly fit or function.
- Agree the manufacturing route. Review tooling, casting, machining and any treatment or finishing together. Confirm which requirements are included in the quotation.
- Agree acceptance before production. Define the sample approval, inspection records and documentation required for the particular order.
- Control repeat production. Keep drawing revisions, material requirements and agreed changes traceable between orders.
