Investment Casting
& CNC Finishing

Investment casting and CNC machining for custom metal parts. Bring your drawings to toway cast to discuss geometry, material selection and the finishing operations your application requires.

One part. A coordinated process.

Designed around your component

01

Complex geometry

The lost-wax process creates a ceramic mold around a wax pattern, making it suitable for detailed shapes that can be difficult to machine entirely from solid stock.

02

Functional surfaces

Combine casting with CNC machining for mating faces, bores, threads and other drawing-defined features that need additional finishing.

03

Application-led choices

Review material, corrosion resistance, loading and surface requirements together to define an appropriate manufacturing route.

How investment casting works

From drawing to delivery

01

Drawing & tooling review

Share your 2D drawing, 3D model, target alloy and quantities. We discuss critical features and tooling requirements.

02

Wax pattern production

Wax patterns reproduce the component geometry and are assembled with a gating system for casting.

03

Ceramic shell building

The pattern assembly is coated to form a ceramic shell. The wax is removed before the mold is prepared for pouring.

04

Pouring & casting cleanup

Molten metal fills the shell. After solidification, the shell and gates are removed and the castings are cleaned.

05

Machining & finishing

Specified features are machined, with heat treatment and surface finishing considered according to the selected alloy and application.

06

Inspection & shipment

Confirm the inspection plan, documentation and packaging requirements before production and delivery.

Materials & engineering

Start with the right alloy

Stainless steel

Discuss stainless steel for parts where corrosion resistance, appearance or service environment informs material selection.

Carbon steel

Consider carbon steel when mechanical requirements, subsequent treatment and overall component cost guide the specification.

Alloy steel

Review alloy steel options for application-specific mechanical properties and heat-treatment requirements.

Grade availability, casting dimensions, tolerances, order quantity and lead time are confirmed after drawing review. Casting and CNC-machined tolerances are specified separately.

Casting + CNC machining

A casting is only the beginning

Define which features can remain as-cast and which require machining. A coordinated plan helps align the casting geometry with final assembly requirements.

Critical dimensions

Identify datums, mating surfaces, bores and threads on your drawing so the manufacturing and inspection plans address the features that matter.

Surface requirements

Specify roughness, cosmetic expectations and coating requirements. Finishing suitability depends on the alloy and component geometry.

Inspection requirements

Tell us which dimensional reports, material documents and additional testing your project requires so these can be included in the quotation.

Common questions

Plan your investment casting project

What should I send for a quotation?

Send a 2D drawing and a 3D model if available, along with material grade, quantity, critical tolerances, surface finish, inspection requirements and your target delivery date.

Can investment casting replace all machining?

Not always. Casting can form the general geometry, while close-fitting or threaded features may still require machining. The drawing review establishes the appropriate combination.

Which tolerances and lead times can you offer?

These depend on part geometry, alloy, tooling, quantity and secondary operations. We confirm project-specific values during quotation rather than applying one figure to every casting.

Can you review a part before production?

Share your drawings and application details through our contact page to discuss casting suitability, material selection and the proposed manufacturing route.
