316 Stainless Steel Investment Casting
Review 316-family stainless casting requirements for architectural and marine hardware. Confirm the exact cast specification, condition and environment.
Define the requirement.
Then review the route.
- Material, geometry and critical features
- Machining and final surface condition
- Inspection, documentation and quantities
Capabilities are confirmed per component. Proposed topics are not verified service claims.
Specify the Cast Material, Not Only a Short Name
316 is a familiar search term, but the purchase drawing should state the required cast grade, governing specification and condition. Do not assume a wrought designation and a cast grade are interchangeable without engineering approval.
Application Requirements to Review
| Review area | What to define in the enquiry |
|---|---|
| Environment | Exposure, temperature, cleaning and contact conditions. |
| Final geometry | Critical machined interfaces, threads and mating faces. |
| Surface condition | Specified finish and appearance acceptance where needed. |
| Documentation | Required material records, sample approval and traceability. |
Connect Material Choice With the Application
Architectural hardware and marine hardware have different exposure and appearance requirements. The final alloy choice must follow the component specification.
Confirm the Production Route
Review investment casting, CNC machining and surface processing as one manufacturing scope.
Move from material family to component requirements
A family name is not a complete cast-grade specification. Supply the actual standard, grade, delivery condition and application. Any equivalence with a wrought material designation must be confirmed rather than assumed.
Agree material records and acceptance and request a drawing-specific review before approving tooling.
Bring the requirements.
Let’s review the route.
Specify your material, quantities and critical features so casting, machining and secondary processing can be reviewed together.
